SUNSHINE COAST PROJECTS

Our heart is still to reach the poor and needy of Indonesia and we also have a new focus towards Pattaya Thailand. Other projects are in the pipeline and will be developed over the next few months.

INDONESIA

Lombok: A number of our teams visit and work with an orphanage in Lombok. This orphanage is called Griya Shekinah Orphanage. We here at our ARMS office have decided to take on this orphanage as one of our projects. The founders of this orphanage believe they can serve their community by providing assistance to the poor and to orphans; especially children still of schooling age. Along with that, proper education, school supplies and daily needs. Also part of their vision is to travel to remote villages and help them by providing medicines and basic healthcare in whatever way possible.
Lombok´s pressing needs are: ongoing monthly budget of $540 (USD) which includes: school fees, transportation, food, utilities, school supplies, recreation, health care, toiletries and staff support.
Purchase a block of land next to the existing property for expansion $8,750 (USD) Cost of building on this land $46,757 (USD)

THAILAND

Pattaya: Is there hope for the prostitution problem in Thailand? Tamar Centre says ´YES´. Located in Pattaya, Tamar Center was opened in August 1999. Their vision is to work with local churches to show the love and compassion of Jesus by bringing help and healing to the estimated 20,000 girls and women in Pattaya involved in prostitution. Each week team members go into the red light area to make contact with the girls who work in the bars and on the beach. As relationships are developed, the girls are invited back to Tamar Center where they can learn English, take part in special activities and go on different outings. Before English class, the staff runs a Bible study for the ladies to attend and following class, there is a time of prayer for the ladies´ needs. Our involvement with this work will be to help raise funds for the Tamar Centre to add a playground to the existing childcare area for the children of the women involved in prostitution. This will free the women up to participate in the programs available to them through the Tamar Centre.

Ways that you can help

Purchase/sell hand made gift cards - The children and staff of Griya Shekinah orphanage hand make a variety of cards to suit any occasion. The proceeds are used in child education. The cards are made out of natural material and make a great gift for that special occasion.
Child Sponsorship - Griya Shekinah Orphanage’s vision is to help those who are less fortunate to break out of their poverty cycle by giving the children from the local village areas an opportunity to be educated through the school system. We have adopted the child sponsorship program so that you can help with educating one or more of these children. If you are interested in child sponsorship please contact ARMS.
